Connecting Talent With Opportunity
Mission
Student Biotechnology Network (SBN) brings together students from a diverse range of departments and professional schools relating to biotechnology, including the life sciences, engineering, commerce and law. It provides an autonomous forum for students to discuss and explore interests and research opportunities in academia and in the corporate world of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. SBN will represent the interests of its members to the University and to those groups in the community that will determine the future of biotechnology in this region.
Vision
The network’s primary goal is to provide our student members with the answers they need in order to make well-informed career decisions. The nature of our graduate education ensures the experience of academic research, but knowledge of industrial research is only rarely made available. Accordingly, information regarding careers outside academia will be provided by unparalleled exposure to the individuals and organizations that comprise the local biotechnology industry. We seek to facilitate interactions and create links between students from traditionally distinct programs as well as establish a student presence within existing networks in which students have been underrepresented in the past. Furthermore, we desire to establish lasting ties to the world of biotechnology beyond academia. Our focus remains regional, though we will seek partnership with outside enterprises for inspiration and a more global perspective.
